Köberl has been fighting for a common commemoration by all parties for years. Since FP Mayor Andreas Rabl took office, the SP, the Greens and parts of the ÖVP have been boycotting the official commemoration of the dead. At that time, Antifa launched a counter-event in which Alexander Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer will take part for the first time this year. At today’s local council meeting, Köberl wants to address the Wels pogrom night dispute in the citizens’ question time. “It can’t be the case that the Federal President comes to the city and has to stay away from the elected mayor of Wels,” says Köberl, who has been a member of the SPÖ for many decades.
