Alois Höller secured the state championship title in Regenschlacht

GÖTZENDORF. In a true rain thriller, the Mühlviertel rallycross warrior Alois Höller won his 44th championship title. “It’s really a huge relief, we didn’t have an easy year and we still won two races,” said the Rubble Master driver, reflecting on the championship. The race in Nyirad, Hungary suited Höller’s season. The record champions took second place in extremely difficult conditions. The event even had to be stopped after the qualifying runs and the intermediate result was counted as the final result. “There was so much water on the track, it was really very dangerous. The water got into my cockpit through the steering column, I’ve never experienced anything like that before,” explained Höller, who has been involved in motorsport for more than 30 years , after the cancellation. Especially in the difficult conditions, the record champion once again showed his driving class and completed the qualifying runs in a sensational second place overall.

Points were enough for titles

Only the Hungarian European Championship driver Mate Benyo in his Peugeot 208 was a little faster than the Götzendorfer in the Ford Fiesta. In the end, the championship points were easily enough to win the Austrian national rallycross championship again and the 44th title in his long career.

A technical defect was almost fatal for the Upper Austrian in the last few meters. “I got stuck on the accelerator pedal during the fast uphill part,” reports Höller about this delicate moment. With a lot of routine, he was able to avoid an accident and bring the almost 600 hp Ford safely to the finish line. After a small championship celebration in the Mühlviertel at home, Höller will continue in two weeks at the Slovakia Ring near Bratislava – where the last round of the Central European Championship will take place. “I want to secure third place,” says an ambitious Höller, setting out the plan.
