As announced at the beginning of the summer, the city of Wels will in future support the establishment of family doctors and primary care centers (PVZ): up to 40,000 euros will be given for the creation or takeover of a family doctor’s practice, and up to 150,000 euros for the first primary care center. The local council decided this unanimously at its meeting yesterday. With the funding, recipients are obliged to practice as a family doctor at the Wels location for at least ten years.
Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) and deputy mayor Klaus Schinninger, who is also a health officer, thanked each other for the good cooperation – but the latter added that he would have liked further measures such as support payments for rent. “Overall, I am happy that we have concluded this package. Because we are not only in competition with large cities, but also with communities in the surrounding area,” said Schinninger.
According to Mayor Rabl, there is currently a lack of four family doctor positions in Wels. “With the funding that has been decided, we hope to offer young doctors an incentive to come to Wels,” he says.
