The first to criticize was the Broad Front senator who accused Gandini of having interests with the Belgian company Katoen Natie, in charge of managing the container terminal of the Port of Montevideo.

“We have named him Senator Katoen Natie. We consider that the secretary of the Por la Patria caucus has relations, Irene Caballerowho is one of the representatives of the State in TCP (Cuenca del Plata Terminal)“There are many links,” Carrera told the press. On the other hand, he assured that he always drew attention to “that Gandini was the only senator from the ruling party who adopted Katoen Natie’s position and defended it in the interpellation.”
Faced with this, Gandini responded by bringing into account the creation of the investigative commission regarding the management of Carrera in the Ministry of Interior and the use of Police Hospital for civilians. “Charles Carrera is not a victim, he is a victimizer. He has to be responsible, first before Parliament and then before Justice. “None of that has to do with the port,” responded the nationalist, who added that he “defends the State” and not the Belgian company.

Security, a separate issue
Another hot topic was the management of insecurity, the money laundering and the drug trafficking. According to Carrera, it has been 40 months since Uruguay stopped being a drug transit country and became a storage country. The senator referred to the reports made by the United Nations, to the report of the independent expert hired by Senaclaft, among others. “All the reports on international matters say it: the drugs that left through Colombia today unfortunately leave through the ports of the Silver riverand in particular for the Port of Montevideo“he lamented.
In response, Gandini once again recalled that the Frente Amplio was the one in charge during the last administration. “He comes from there, right? He is the great failure. The Frente Amplio should pass a big bill to Charles Carrerabecause Eduardo Bonomi died, because they lost the election among other things due to the disaster in the management of public security,” remarked the nationalist senator.
In the end, Gandini raised the tone of the intersection and asked Carrera to shut up and “Show his face, be a man.” To this, the Frente Amplista senator assured that he would not continue the discussion since he is not interested in “debating with a be insignificant.”
