Together with a climbing partner, a 55-year-old wanted to complete via ferrata No. 3, difficulty level C, twice in a row on Tuesday at the Beisteinmauer climbing center in Ternberg (Steyr-Land district). However, on the second ascent the woman lost her strength. She couldn’t go any further and called the mountain rescue service. The woman from Linz was taken out of the via ferrata by the C10 emergency medical helicopter team using a rope rescue. She remained unhurt.
In the Gmunden district, a couple from Upper Austria, 80 and 81 years old, set off on a tour from the mountain station of the Katringondelbahn. First we went to the Katrin summit, then along circular route no. 898, first to the Elferkogel, then further over the Hainzen. However, on the way back to the starting point, the top station of the cable car, the 81-year-old felt dizzy several times. The couple took a break and tried to fortify themselves with drinks and snacks, but the man’s circulatory problems did not improve. Moving forward was no longer an option. The two hikers called the police via emergency call.
The mountain rescue service from Bad Ischl and an officer from the Gmunden Alpine Police were able to transport the weakened man to the mountain station of the Katrin cable car using a universal stretcher. The couple then drove into the valley together.
