“Curved” is the name of the masterpiece of the young master carpenter Simon Stempfer from St. Johann am Walde. The sideboard is called that because the curve characterizes the piece of furniture, at least on one side. On the other hand, the right angle prevails; the meeting of both design elements secured the talented carpenter’s participation in the nationwide competition for the “Lignoram Award” in Riedau, where twelve masterpieces are currently on display.
Visually, dark American walnut, black glass and gray determine the master furniture. Simon Stempfer is one of the best young master carpenters in Austria. He and eleven other carpenters who passed their master craftsman examination this year are showing their masterpieces in the Lignorama wood and tool museum in Riedau until October 29th. This year several Upper Austrians are taking part in the competition: among them Lisa Aschl from Grieskirchner from Aistersheim and Adrian Graml from Waizenkirchen. With the “little black dress”, Ruth Hinterplattner from Steyr shows an elegant sideboard in black and brown.
Combining individual design and perfect workmanship with functionality are the main criteria of this competition. There is both an expert jury award and an audience award. A cash prize will be awarded for the three best pieces of furniture, and exhibition visitors can vote for their favorite piece of furniture until October 12th.
Opening hours: Fridays to Sundays and October 26th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment on 07764 6644, information: www.lignorama.com
