UTC Casa Moda Steyr has been playing in the 1st Tennis Bundesliga for 13 years. It’s only logical that the club in Gleink also wanted to show high-quality tennis on the facility for its 50th anniversary. At the “Painting & Facades 5 Nations Cup” last Saturday, eight teams of two players each competed in entertaining tiebreak matches for the winner’s prize money of 1,000 euros.

The Spanish duo Enrique Lopez-Perez and Javier Martinez Baena were unbeatable at this invitational tournament. The former is well known to tennis fans in Gleink, as he played as a legionnaire in the UTC Bundesliga team for several years. Together with his partner, he confidently played his way through the group phase.

The surprise of the tournament came from the two UTC oldies Martin Schneiderbauer and Stefan Minichberger, who prevailed in the second group against the Turkmenistan Davis Cup player Isa Mammetgulyev and his Slovakian partner Marcus Masarcin. Although there was a defeat against the Argentinian Mariano Delfino and ex-UTC player Lucas Hejhal, the semi-final was still booked. However, the two veterans had no chance against the eventual Spanish winners. The current UTC Bundesliga players Philipp Bachmaier and Tobias Leitner won in the second semi-final against Delfino/Hejhal, but also had no chance in the final against the Spanish superiority.
