Bothe lived in an apartment in the town center, but according to the municipality, he was not present or known in public life. She leaves behind an adult son.
Her sporting moment of glory dates back to December 5, 1993, when she and the DHB team sensationally beat Denmark 22:21 after extra time in the World Cup final in Copenhagen. Bothe, born in 1960 under the maiden name Picken and married Adamik for the first time, played 236 international matches for the GDR selection and the all-German national handball team, with which she celebrated her greatest successes: the 1993 World Cup title was followed by the silver medal in Berlin in 1994 at the home European Championship.
The goalkeeper had already finished fourth in the World Cup in 1982 and 1986.
Her greatest club successes resulted from her time at TuS Walle Bremen, winning several national titles and the 1994 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
