Riots after controversial ruling
The mass looting occurred after a peaceful demonstration in response to a judge’s decision to dismiss murder charges and other accusations against police officer Mark Dial, who shot and killed Eddie Irizarry, in what was defined as a new attack by the security forces against the black population.
For his part, Acting Police Commissioner John Stanford assured NBC Philadelphia that between 15 and 20 arrests had been made and Two firearms had been recovered, but he was not sure if they were related to the looting.

The looting also coincided with Target’s announcement that it would close nine of its stores in four states, including one located in the East Harlem neighborhood of New York City and three others in the San Francisco Bay area.
