Doctors and lawyers elect their authorities

Today is election day for both the Bar Association and tomorrow for the Doctors’ Union. In both cases, the ruling party is emerging as a candidate.

As he Law School As the Medical Union of Uruguay (SMU) In the next 48 hours, they elect who will be their authorities: in the first, the president Laura Capalbo goes for re-election, while in the second they vote for who will be the successor of Zaida Arteta.

In the case of lawyers, three lists They are fighting for the presidency. On the one hand, the current president of the group, Laura Capaldo, who is seeking reelection with the argument that repeating her administration would ensure that the Bar Association “has a voice” in its ties with the Justice system —as she expressed to El Country. They oppose it Elzeario Boix by List 11 and under the motto “Current Renovadora”, and Carlos Bustamante, by List 33.

According to Boix, the list attempts to change the perspective of the College, increase the stake of the organization in legal and legal issues related to the government, and promote the integration of all lawyers in the country through technology.

Bustamante, for his part, promotes initiatives that defend lawyers’ rights and his “active participation” in the organizational changes of the CAU and its leadership; the promotion of thematic commissions in the College; and the reduction of costs to 50% of the courses at the CAU for members and even free.

Elections in the Medical Union

The doctors, for their part, will vote for the person who succeeds Zaida Arteta – who cannot be re-elected – in elections that will include 8,200 doctors from all over the country. They apply for the position José Minarrieta, as continuity of the current management (Fosalba), and an opposition divided into three lists: Rodrigo Perna, by Together; Julio Vignolo, by Identity; and Eduardo Ferreira, by Authentic Guildism.

Despite the differences between the four groups that will compete for the leadership of the SMU, they all agree on improve living conditions of doctors, especially due to the type of contract and salary of some, as well as the mental health status of the group. For its part, the opposition is united in pointing out Fosalba’s closeness to the Wide Front —something rejected by the ruling party—, and in the intention of ending the management of the group that has historically won in the union.

The doctors will choose the Executive committee, made up of 10 medical positions —five chairs today are from Fosalba (one is that of the president of the SMU), four from Juntos and the other from Gremialismo Auténtico— and three students. The members of the Tax Commission, he Arbitration Council and the Board of Directors of the Holiday Colony.
