Rodríguez Zapatero asked to resume the dialogue in Venezuela and Maduro replied that he has not yet

“What will emerge from here will be good and will strengthen political dialogue, democratic governance, the ability to face problems, find solutions,” Maduro said at a press conference after casting his vote.

However, the president warned that “there are no conditions to install dialogue yet,” after the government suspended it in response to the extradition to the United States of Colombian businessman Álex Saab.

“It was the United States that stabbed the dialogue, they have to answer for that kidnapping; when there are conditions we will inform the country, “added Maduro, according to the Sputnik news agency.

The Venezuelan government resolved to freeze the dialogue it had in Mexico City with the opposition on October 17, a day after Saab was taken from the African archipelago Cape Verde – where he had been detained since June 2020 – to the United States, where he is being tried for conspiracy to launder money.

Washington and the Venezuelan opposition suspect that Saab acted as Maduro’s front man, while the Venezuelan government maintained – once the businessman was arrested in Cape Verde – that he was the country’s diplomatic representative.

The resumption of talks with the opposition was demanded earlier today by Rodríguez Zapatero, visiting Caracas as an individual observer of the elections.

“I want dialogue to recover after the elections, I think it is essential that the government and the opposition dialogue permanently, democracy is an attitude of respect and recognition,” said the former Spanish leader at a press conference.

“I have always believed, despite the difficulties, that dialogue was possible,” said Rodríguez Zapatero, according to the Europa Press agency.
