Unemployment among young people up to 24 years old reached 25.6%

The lack of work continues to hit Uruguayan youth, which also registers alarming levels in the 25 to 29 age group.

In addition to these alarming figures, the country also registers a high level of unemployment in the age group of 25 to 29 years, which was established at 13.6%, according to the Differential Labor Market Report corresponding to the month of August prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Both figures are well above the general average of unemployed people nationwide, which was 8.2% last month, and seem to confirm the popular saying that “Uruguay “It’s a country of old people.”

For its part, in the age group of 30 to 34 years the rate of unemployment drops abruptly to 6.5% (less than half of the predecessor group). Likewise, this is 4.2% among people between 35 and 44 years old; 3.9% among those aged 45 to 54; 3.6% for those aged 55 to 64; and finally 4.5% for those over 65 years of age.

In the breakdown by sex, the rate of unemployment in men it was 7.6%, being below the average, while that of women was 9%, also being above the average.

Uruguayans with primary education register lower unemployment than those with secondary education

Regarding the educational level, the unemployment It is higher among those who have completed the Basic Cycle (or incomplete high school), since it reaches 10% of people.

The rate of unemployment among those who completed secondary school (or did not complete their tertiary studies) it is close to 9.3%.

Curiously, those who do not have the complete Basic Cycle register a lower unemployment to these two previously named higher categories, since this is 9.2%. However, all three are above the national average.

At the other extreme, people who completed tertiary, university or postgraduate studies have a level of unemployment of only 1.9%.
