Gurméndez will analyze his pre-candidacy for the Colorado Party

Although the general elections are still more than a year away, the pre-candidacies They are already beginning to be defined and closed, especially because, in those cases in which the leaders hold positions in public companies, the deadline to present their resignation – and, thus, to be able to appear in internal party elections, as indicated by the Constitution- expires next October 27.

Such is the case of Gurméndez, who, if he accepts the proposal of List 15, must take a step aside from Antel before the deadline expires, in less than a month.

In this regard, the current leader of the state telecommunications company stated in a press conference that his pre-candidacy “is a reflection that we are going to do,” while the proposal involves assuming a service responsibility. “I think that is what we have done in this stage that we have lived and that we have gone through in recent times,” he said.

The final decision, meanwhile, will be the result of the personal reflection, in consultation with trusted people and friends, he said, adding that “the company has always encouraged us to make service decisions, for the vocation “That those around me know me.”

The List 15 proposal

The proposal to Gurméndez was made by the Batllismo group-List 15 of the Colorado Party, that integrates the senator Raúl Batlle.

The announcement was made through a resolution of the sector in which the group’s conviction is stated that “it will only be possible to have the support of Uruguayans again if the Colorado Party assumes a most leading rolepromoting a new coalition, for which it is urgent to face a renewal process” of the party.

This “new leadership,” points out 15, “requires having a letter of introduction to the citizens, based on recognized public management and a unquestionable political career; exhibiting the ability to put himself at the forefront of a liberal, humanist and transformative current”, qualities that, as they understand, Gurméndez presents.

“Gabriel Gurméndez is a figure who has accumulated a recognized political militancy over time and has demonstrated a solid commitment to the values ​​and principles that the Colorado Party represents” and is “unequivocally associated with the defense of freedom, democracy, Batllismo, the 15” and its historical leaders, notes the declaration, signed by Senator Batlle, current president of the sector.

In the text they remember that Gurméndez became Minister of State of Jorge Batlle and they highlight that he is “also recognized in the private sector based on his professional career and business leadership.”
