The Surgical Anesthetic Union rejected the reform project presented by the Executive Branch and demanded that the State make a greater economic effort.
The bailout bill for Retirement and Pension Fund for University Professionals (Cjjpu) noted its first internal opposition after the Executive Branch presented the initiative in the Parliament of Uruguay: he Surgical Anesthetic Union (SAQ) issued a statement opposing the proposed reform, and noted that “the State “he ignores his undeniable responsibility.”

“The Law creating the Cjppu establishes that two of the seven rented Directors are appointed by the Executive power as their representatives, precisely, to participate and have a controlling role in the entire management. Throughout this time the State has had its delegates, those who have endorsed and supported the terrible management that has led the Fund to this crisis. The State is undoubtedly co-responsible of the problem and must take charge,” the union points out in the document.

According to the SAQ, the State is highly responsible for the critical financial situation that goes through the Professionals Fund — which “never received financial contributions from the State,” unlike the parastatal funds and the Social Security Bank (BPS)—, so your contribution to solving the problem must be up to par; something that, they understand, does not happen in the bill presented.
Another factor pointed out against the initiative is that retired professionals “subsidize” through the Social Security Assistance Tax (IASS) the deficits of a pension system that is foreign to them, “and now they are trying to increase their contributions to the Fund.” Along the same lines, they point out the “excessive effort” that is required of both active and passive professionals, while the State, responsible for the management of the Cjppu, “does not make a corresponding economic effort”.
“We demand that the State admit its responsibility and grant a real financial support”, the SAQ insisted in the statement. They also included a claim for referral to the corresponding system of IASS discounts – that is, where appropriate, to the Professionals Fund; and the request to increase the contributions provided for in article 71 of the law, which considers genuine resources —parallel to employer contributions— “originating in the work of university professionals.”
Finally, the SAQ invited the other medical unions and all professional groups “to demonstrate firmly in defense of the Retirement and Pension Fund for University Professionals“, and to mobilize before Parliament “to achieve a better and fairer reform law.”
The Frente Amplio did not guarantee support for the project
At the parliamentary level, the rescue of the Professional Box It also generates doubts in the left coalition that, while confirming its support for the project for the Bank Cash, He has not yet decided whether he will give his votes to the initiative that aims to guarantee the financial viability of the Cjjpu.
In this sense, the president of the Frente Amplio, Fernando Pereira, He warned that they need to “thoroughly analyze” the project that proposes modifications to the Professionals Fund; and he passed the ball to the ruling party by pointing out that “it is clear that the Coalition “He doesn’t know if he has the votes of his political sectors.”
In any case, he anticipated that “it is more complex because there is no tripartism”—unlike the agreement that was reached with the banking sector to rescue its pension fund—, and he reviewed that “there are many professional groups that have been expressed in one way and another.”
