The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) is also starting its World Series. Ebensee is in illustrious company: the remaining venues are Cagliari (Italy), Ceara (Brazil) and Zhuhai (China), where the grand finale will take place at the end of November.

For the third time, Lake Traunsee is the venue for the highest racing series in the spectacular and future Olympic Formula Kite class. The first nation tickets for Paris 2024 have already been handed out at the World Championships for the Olympic sailing classes held in mid-August off The Hague (Ned).

The Austrian Sailing Association is at the start of the KiteFoil Grand Prix with Valentin Bontus and Alina Kornelli. With fourth place at the World Championships, Bontus catapulted himself into the ranks of the world’s best and thus also secured the quota place for the Olympic Games. Kornelli, eighth at the European Championships in Portsmouth (Gbr) a week ago, failed twice just at the limit for Paris. Last year, the 23-year-old impressed with fifth place at Lake Traunsee.

The elite field is led by two world champions: the 17-year-old Max Maeder, who competes for Singapore, and the French Lauriane Nolot.
