Lula walks around her room and started physical therapy after successfully undergoing hip surgery

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, walked and performed physiotherapy sessions today as part of his recovery after hip surgery for osteoarthritis that will keep him hospitalized until at least Tuesday.

The president “spent the night in a stable condition, walked during the morning and underwent physical therapy sessions. He remains hospitalized in a common room,” according to the medical report released today.

Doctors said yesterday that Lula should be hospitalized until Tuesday at the Syrian Lebanese Hospital in Brasilia, where he underwent total arthroplasty of the right hip sector and a porcelain prosthesis was placed on the head of the femur.

The medical bulletin is signed by the team of doctors Roberto Kalil Filho, Ana Germoglio and Giancarlo Polesello and does not mention hospitalization in intensive care.

Lula took advantage of the anesthesia, according to Dr. Kalil, his personal doctor, to undergo surgery in addition to discomfort in his eyelid.

The president of Brazil will be able to return to the official residence of the Alvorada Palace next week to resume his work, but Dr. Germoglio told the press that on the same Friday afternoon, after waking up from general anesthesia, Lula began asking on management and policy issues.

At 77 years old, he must be in recovery without traveling for several weeks and work using a walker.

The founder of the Workers’ Party has scheduled his first international tour for the end of November in the United Arab Emirates and Germany.
