In that sense, Mieres He pointed out that since 2021, 110,000 jobs have been recovered, the same number that was lost between 2017 and 2021, as a result of the economic situation and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The leader spoke about the evolution of employment at a press conference and specified that there were 50,000 jobs that were lost between 2017 and 2019, to which another 60,000 were added in 2020, linked to the effects of the pandemic.
Against that, he contrasted that between 2021 and so far this year, the country managed to recover those 110,000 jobs. He even asserted that “the number of workers in the labor market is the highest since records existed.”
Unemployment increases among young people
It is worth highlighting that, according to the data from the latest survey of the INE, corresponding to August, the Activity rate reaches 63.5%, with a rate of employment of 58.2% and a unemployment of 8.2%, which implies that some 1,698 million people have work, compared to some 152,300 workers who are looking for work without finding it.
The problem is worse among the youngest, since Uruguayans from 14 to 24 years old reach a unemployment of 25.6%, which is beginning to look like a problem in the medium term.
According to the Differential Labor Market Report of the INE, Something similar occurs with the age group of 25 to 29 years, which was in the order of 13.6%, both figures well above the 8.2% of the general level.
