The Climate Protection Ministry announced this in a press release. This corresponds to 92 terawatt hours of natural gas and is more than Austria consumed in 2022. Last year less gas was used. The gas storage facilities were therefore comparatively well filled in the spring, according to the ministry. “With the full storage capacity, we have a good and important safety cushion for the winter,” said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, “But it is still worth saving energy.”

The gas storage facilities in the EU are on average around 95 percent full. The storage facilities of Spain and Poland are practically full. Ukraine’s storage facilities are only around a third full, and those in Great Britain are two thirds full.

According to the ministry, the website energie.gv.at offers relevant information about the domestic energy supply, average prices and possibilities for saving energy.
