Using police dogs, boats and drones, the emergency services from Garsten began looking for the 58-year-old in the community of Ternberg, who had been missing since Sunday, around 10:30 a.m. on Monday. They were quickly successful with the large-scale operation because the man was found near his home around an hour and a half after the alarm was raised.
“When we found him, the man was severely hypothermic, but conscious,” says Andreas Aschauer, commander of the Garsten Volunteer Fire Department. After receiving emergency medical care, the 58-year-old was then handed over to the Red Cross paramedics, who took him to Steyr Hospital. It is still unclear why the man ended up lying down. A total of around 160 emergency services were deployed.
