“Always just crime fiction isn’t fulfilling,” says author Pepi Tichler about his genre shift. The Linz native with Mühlviertel ancestry admits that at the beginning of the new book he had no idea how to construct a non-criminal storyline, and yet he still has his first novel hot off the press in his hands. The result is something halfway between satire and “coming of age”. The reader has to be prepared for all sorts of surprises: “Ach Armin…” is not only characterized by the unconventional Tichler-style narrative, it also provokes a wealth of “ahas” and memories in the reader.

“Oh Armin…” is the story of Armin G, who has literally fallen out of time. Because after an accident he ‘missed’ the last 37 years. He finds it difficult to find his way around this world that is new to him. Despite his intelligence, he simply cannot understand the technical innovations and social developments that have happened since he was 19 years old. He is a highly gifted Asperger’s autistic, brilliant at logic and mathematics. He is faced with the challenge of not only understanding the changed world but also learning to grasp the facets of human coexistence. When Armin, faced with the mystery of his accident, tirelessly travels in Linz and Upper Austria – from Eferding via St. Martin/M. and Kefermarkt – the reader is looking for the girl of his dreams from his school days. And suffers with him when he simply cannot understand the new times.
