The mobile care employees are on duty 365 days a year. One of them is Manuela from Braunau. Since 2013, the 35-year-old has been looking after people who can no longer cope with their everyday lives on their own. “Because the number of people in need of care is increasing, our society needs more people like Manuela,” says Red Cross district office manager Herbert Markler. Under the motto “It’s in you!” The Red Cross is looking for employees nationwide for the mobile nursing service.
“Statistics show that the number of people in need of care in Upper Austria will rise from currently around 80,000 to almost 126,000 by 2040. This also increases the need for nursing staff. We are already feeling the first effects,” says Markler. The Red Cross is currently looking for 100 mobile nursing staff nationwide. There are also 20 positions open in mobile care and support in the Braunau district. In order for as many people as possible to strive for a “career with meaning,” geographical and language barriers must be broken down, says Markler. The appreciation for nursing professions should also continue to be strengthened. Specialist social workers in work with the elderly, or FSB “A” for short, are particularly urgently needed.
Everyday things like showering, personal hygiene, changing bandages and administering medication are part of Manuela’s everyday working life, which is characterized by dignity, respect, perseverance and a lot of heart. “I enjoy my job and am happy about the trust that clients and relatives place in me. Their gratitude touches me and I find my work meaningful,” says Manuela. The woman from Braunau is the mother of three children and, thanks to her flexibility, she says it’s easy to combine work and family.
