Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had an eventful career – and now reveals what he really regrets: The 41-year-old has been linked with a move to a top English club twice in his long career. But the transfer never took place.
In a preview of an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, which will be released in full on Thursday, Morgan can be seen saying: “There’s only one thing you did wrong.” Zlatan answers and reveals what mistake he really regrets: “I didn’t go to Arsenal.” But he also justifies himself: “I don’t do any trial training.”
The background: Ibrahimovic was linked with a move to top English club Arsenal in 2000 as an 18-year-old. At that time he was still playing in Sweden for Malmö. However, in 2016, “Ibra” revealed to “Sky Italia” why the transfer didn’t happen: “I traveled to London to meet with Wenger, who asked me to audition for the Gunners. I told him: I don’t do any trial training: Either you take me or you don’t, I’m not here to waste time.”
Then-Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger decided against “signing Ibra2. He told BBC Sport that he didn’t regret the decision. “He was a 17-year-old boy who played for Malmö in the Swedish second division. Nobody knew him.”
