The emergency services saw a picture of devastation on Wednesday morning in the municipality of Munderfing (Braunau am Inn district): a truck collided with a regional train at the railway crossing on the Achenloh municipal road and was torn in two. The regional train on the Steindorf – Braunau railway line only came to a stop a little later, despite emergency braking. The 40-year-old train driver was no longer able to stop in time when the tractor-trailer slowly crossed the unbarred intersection secured with a stop sign around 9:50 a.m. It is not known why the 51-year-old driver of the truck drove onto the tracks despite the approaching train. According to the police, he had previously stopped and then backed up around 30 meters to let oncoming cars pass.

Fire brigade, rescue and police were on duty.
