“With the renovation, an ugly duckling became a beautiful swan,” said Raiffeisenbank chairman Josef Kinzl at the opening of the Technology and Startup Center (TGZ) in Schärding, which took place last Wednesday after almost a year of construction. The Raiffeisenbank Region Schärding took over the majority shares in TGZ in 2020 and created a new concept for the aging building. The bank invested around five million euros in the building, which is intended to provide even more impetus for the technology and start-up scene in the region in the future. “We have the mandate to use our equity sensibly,” said Raiffeisen managing director Matthias Breidt. “We did that again in Schärding.”

The TGZ was completely renovated in terms of energy efficiency and also received a complete architectural renovation. In addition, a catering area was created as a central meeting point. “The construction was very successful and we are already satisfied with the capacity utilization,” explained Raiffeisen managing director and TGZ managing director Karin Wallerstorfer-Rögl. But there are still free places available.
The new premises are intended not only to offer young companies a platform, but also to provide space for further technological development. Schärding is home to one of three cross-border innovation spaces, which, in cooperation with the TGZ Ried, the University of Passau and the “Inn.Kubator” Passau, is intended to create a meeting place for companies, technology enthusiasts as well as school and university students. In the future, not only spatial but also technological boundaries will be exceeded.
