For children with diabetes, proper nutrition is an essential part of everyday life. The Hospital of the Sisters of Mercy Ried now wants to network those affected with each other – at a diabetes brunch in which affected children and their parents can take part. “Diabetes in children can be treated well if you know how to deal with it. Our goal is for parents to become professionals for their own child,” says senior physician Marlene Schönhuber, diabetes expert at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Rieder Hospital.

A “nanny” provides answers

For the first time, a meeting of children affected by diabetes and their parents will take place on Saturday, November 4th (from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., seminar center). At a brunch (this is also tailored to the nutritional needs of diabetes sufferers), “Diabetes Nanny” Ulrike Humpel (Austrian Diabetic Association) answers a wide range of questions. Anyone interested can take part, regardless of whether they are being treated at the Ried Hospital or not. Registration: bettina.huber@bhs.at; 077 52 / 602 -91414.
