“Even if the number of unemployed people is increasing slightly and companies are currently more cautious about reporting vacancies to the AMS, the ‘old normal’ of before 2020 has still not been reached,” says Doris Steiner, head of the AMS Rohrbach , with a view to the current unemployment figures. In this “old normal” there were traditionally many more unemployed people than vacancies.

“From a labor market perspective, I would rather say that the tense situation with an extremely large number of vacancies and fewer people looking for work is returning to normal,” says Steiner. At AMS Rohrbach there are no excessive layoffs of employees in individual companies that would go beyond normal fluctuation.

The AMS team is also dealing with the issue of short-time work, which has been newly regulated since October 1st. “The access and general conditions of the new, state-funded short-time work are not comparable to the Covid-19 short-time work from 2020,” explains the head of the service center. It is now only granted in absolutely exceptional cases, such as natural disasters. “I can confirm that there are currently no companies in the Rohrbach district on state-funded short-time work.”

Unemployment rate 1.8 percent

The estimated unemployment rate at the end of September in the Rohrbach district is 1.8 percent. It is therefore 0.2 percentage points higher than in September of the previous year. The unemployment rate across Upper Austria is 3.9 percent in September 2023 (3.5 percent in the previous year).

462 people unemployed

In absolute numbers, 462 people are currently unemployed in Rohrbach, including 236 women and 226 men. That is 30 women and 26 men more than in September of the previous year. 225 people are currently attending training or further education financed by the employment service in order to expand their skills and thus increase their chances on the labor market. That is 37 more people than in the same period last year.

In September 2023, 204 people registered as unemployed, 310 people accepted a new job or ended unemployment for other reasons.
