The fire department received the alarm shortly after noon. The homeowners’ daughters had called their parents – and they in turn immediately called him, says Bernhard Kastner, commander of the Bernhardschlag volunteer fire department. The family property was on fire.
The commander immediately triggered alert level 2 and a quarter of an hour later alert level 3. 18 fire departments with 200 men and women were on duty to extinguish the fire.
Because one of the daughters was initially considered missing, a search for the young person was carried out in the house using breathing apparatus. Fortunately, it turned out that she was able to leave the house in time.
The flames also spread to the house on the Mühlviertel farm and spread to the roof structure.
Suspected smoke poisoning
The Red Cross was at the scene of the fire with several rescue vehicles. According to initial information, three people had to be taken to hospital with suspected smoke poisoning. A firefighter also had to be cared for by the rescue team.
The fire was under control by early afternoon, but extinguishing work is expected to take longer.
Later in the afternoon, the firefighters were faced with the challenge of building an outdoor enclosure for the approximately 100 cattle that could be rescued from the stable in time. Construction companies from the area provided mobile fence elements for this purpose.
