The Steinbach Black Wings’ soaring continues: The Linz ice hockey cracks celebrated their third win in a row with a 4:1 (1:0, 2:0, 1:1) against Fehervar. That was just to the liking of Brian Lebler (8th), Logan Roe (36th/pp2), Graham Knott (39th/sh) and Emilio Romig (60th/empty net), who entered the shooting list.
But the loudest applause from the 2,379 visitors was received by one guest in the stands – namely striker Stefan Gaffal, who has to take a break for around three months after a fractured skull base. It’s nice that he’s back in the Linz AG ice arena, where Andreas Kristler was bursting with enthusiasm. The 33-year-old became a father for the first time on Wednesday. Congratulations.
Goalie Rasmus Tirronen wasn’t 100% happy, as only 230 seconds separated him from his first shutout of the season (match without conceding a goal). When Niklas Bretschneider’s penalty expired, Joshua Atkinson reduced the score to 1:3 for the Hungarians (57′). But that shouldn’t throw the EHC off track; Romig had the last word.
Nico Feldner recorded two assists, and Knott, who incidentally scored while outnumbered, scored two more points. The Canadian already has 13, only Steven Owre (Pioneers Vorarlberg) and Peter Schneider (Salzburg) have more – 15 to be precise.
Asiago beat the Vienna Capitals 1-0, Innsbruck beat the KAC 4-1. At the bottom of the table is HC Bozen Südtirol, which made it to the final last season.
The Black Wings only continue in Ljubljana on Wednesday (7:15 p.m., live ticker on nachrichten.at) because the guest appearance at the Graz 99ers that was planned for Sunday cannot take place due to numerous cases of illness among the Styrians.
