The 49-year-old was caught by the police on Sunday morning as he raced along Salzburger Straße towards the city center at 118 km/h, more than twice as fast as the permitted speed. The officers stopped Welser, who tried to justify himself with a somewhat strange excuse: For him, this wasn’t a local area, he told the police. He also didn’t see any 50 km/h limit. The man had to hand in his driver’s license on the spot and was forbidden to continue driving, the police said on Sunday afternoon.
