Among the 48,000 starters at the Berlin Marathon, where the Ethiopian Tigist Assefa set a new women’s world record with 2:11:53 hours, there were also the two Innviertlers Christoph Mühringer from Gurten and Marcus Reischauer from Pattigham. “I opened my own practice in the summer, and despite everything I found enough time to prepare for Berlin for three months,” says physiotherapist Mühringer, who completed around 110 training kilometers per week.
Shortly before the race, his girlfriend fell ill with Corona, as she did before the last marathon. “Of course I got nervous and hoped I wouldn’t get sick. But everything went well. Maybe I need that thrill before the competitions,” says Mühringer with a smile. During the race, Gurtner developed heavy legs after 27 kilometers and complained of nausea, but “thanks to the great support” of his “fans” who traveled with him, the 33-year-old fought his way to the finish. The time of 2:35:04 hours was enough for 388th place.
Marcus Reischauer was ten minutes faster. Last year, the 40-year-old ran his personal best time of 2:26 hours in Berlin. In this year’s race, the father of two increased this again to 2:25:31 hours and ultimately ended up in 188th place.
“It was a great race, I completed the half marathon in 1:11:53 hours. I’m very, very happy with the time,” says Reischauer, who then toasted the achievement with Mühringer and his friends in Berlin. It was probably the last marathon at this level for the father of two. The training effort for this sporting achievement is enormous, says Reischauer.
