Last week, BioLife opened what it says is the first plasma center in Austria that can be operated emission-free in the Biesenfeld shopping center on Dornacher Straße. By using technologies such as dual-use waste heat, optimizing the cooling system using state-of-the-art coolants and using 100 percent renewable energy, the donation center is designed to produce no greenhouse gas emissions during operation. In addition, the green roof area expands the city’s green space.

25 jobs
The new center offers space for 24 donors, who supply the raw material that underlies numerous therapies. 25 jobs were created. “Together with the BioLife plasma donation center on Gruberstrasse and the Takeda production site on Sankt-Peter-Strasse, around 700 employees contribute to the local economy and to the care of patients in Austria,” says Leonhard Heinzl, center manager in Linz. BioLife is part of the Japanese biopharmaceutical company Takeda. There are a total of 13 specialized plasma centers in Austria.
