The Brigitte Schwaiger Literature Trail in Freistadt was opened with a joint inspection on Sunday afternoon. The approximately two kilometer long loop leads through the old town to ten places that were of great importance in Brigitte Schwaiger’s life. The important writer was remembered here on Sunday with short readings, music and information. The opening was rounded off with a ceremony in the Salzhof.

The entire literature trail also includes an additional hiking route in the north of the city. Here, walkers can discover two more stations in the middle of the countryside on a 2.4 km long loop. The literature trail is freely accessible 365 days a year. Anyone interested can get closer to the Freistadt author Brigitte Schwaiger in this way.

The Brigitte Schwaiger Literature Trail was built with the support of the Mühlviertler Kernland Leader Region, regional sponsors and the municipality of Freistadt.

Brigitte Schwaiger (1949–2010) wrote a bestseller with her debut novel “How does the salt get into the sea”, which sold more than 500,000 copies, was translated into 15 languages ​​and made into a film in 1988. Many more novels, a series of prose and drama volumes and radio plays followed. Schwaiger is considered one of the most important German-speaking writers of the 1970s and 80s.
