175,000 euros went into innovations in Linz’s playgrounds in 2023, and spare parts cost another 100,000. New devices were installed at twelve locations. The city has its own team of three employees who are taking care of the work. In the winter months, play equipment such as sliding platforms, mud tables, small play structures and sandboxes worth around 200,000 euros are produced in our own carpentry workshop. “Thanks to our own employees, we are very flexible, can react quickly to damage and repair playground equipment cost-effectively,” says Vice Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP).
Giant pendulum swing was renewed
Larger projects included the renovation of the giant pendulum swing at the playground on Alten Feldweg, the new construction of the water playground on Bauernberg and new play equipment for the children’s playgrounds on Am Damm, at Prunerstift and Enzmüllnerweg.
Inclusive playground is coming in spring
Construction work on an inclusive playground in the Volksgarten is scheduled to begin in the spring. As reported, new play equipment should also be able to be used by children with disabilities. The competition has already ended and the results will be presented in about two weeks. The cost of the new playground, which is intended to replace the old one, amounts to 200,000 euros.
Two new exercise parks on the wish list
The city also wants to take into account the trend towards motor skills or exercise parks. Two such parks are to be created, either as an extension of existing playgrounds or completely new. The necessary resources should be made available in the double budget to be negotiated.
