Industrial exports fell 11.6% in September

The industrial exports in the country they had a drop of 11.6% during the month of September, being the main destination Brazil, China, United States and Argentina, according to the monthly report of the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU).

Considering the previous year, and if exports are accumulated since January, sales of industrial products abroad decreased by 13.3% according to the monthly report of Foreign Trade of Goods made by the Directorate of Economic Studies of the Chamber.

According to the report, the Manufactures of Industrial Origin (MOI) They had good news by registering an increase of 6.8% compared to the same period last year, achieving a total of 152 million dollars. Meanwhile, if compared to what was accumulated during the year, the MOI decreased by 6% compared to 2022.

For their part, the Manufactures of Agricultural Origin (MOA) They did not suffer the same fate. “Exports of Manufactures of Agricultural Origin fell 17.3% in September compared to the same month in 2022, with 383 million dollars placed, and in the cumulative amount of the year they fell 15.6% compared to the same period in 2022,” it states. the CIU statement.

Exports by level of activity and main destinations

Regarding the sectors with the greatest activity within the MOI, there is, first of all, the manufacturing of vehicles automotive with 65.4%, the manufacture of furniture with 33% and, finally, the manufacture of electrical and electronic cables with 19.4%.

Meanwhile, the sectors with the least activity within the MOA were exports of manufacturing dairy, those of malted drinks and malt and the products meat with a decrease of 34.6%, 17% and 9.4% respectively. The sector that did have good news was the manufacturing of leaves. wood for veneer and wood-based panels that saw an increase of 21%.

As for the destinations, the main one was Brazil with a participation of 21.6% and with 1,551 million dollars. Secondly, there is China, with a participation of 17.4%, generating an income of 1,253 million dollars, while, in third place – and with a participation of 7.6% – is USA generating an income of 549 million dollars. Argentina It is in fourth place with a share of 5.2% and revenues of around $374 million.
