The plane, which has been around for 56 years, was due to take off for Larnaca on Thursday afternoon after the take-off originally planned for Wednesday was canceled due to a technical defect. The flight was scheduled to take off at 4 p.m., but again there were problems. The plane was in the air, but had to turn around immediately, Federal Army spokesman Michael Bauer confirmed to the Kurier.

The search for the cause is in full swing again, it was said. Technicians had previously identified the fault in the compressed air system that prevented the transport plane from taking off on Wednesday, said Bauer. “There was a workshop flight. So a traffic pattern. Now a double check is being carried out by the technicians, then we’ll see what happens next,” explained the Federal Army spokesman.
First Austrians back in Vienna
It remains unclear, however, whether the Federal Army aircraft can still be used to rescue the Austrians who want to leave the country; the decision ultimately rests with the Foreign Ministry. Alternatives have now been organized, two planes with Austrians on board landed in Schwechat on Thursday evening, and another is scheduled to follow on Friday.
