The Hercules plane Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) which was designated for the repatriation of Uruguayans from Israel is already in Madrid Spain.
In the context of the war between Israel and Hamasthe FAU aircraft will fly this Saturday from the base of Torrejón de Ardoz bound for Tel Aviv to repatriate some 90 Uruguayan citizens not resident in Israel.
He Minister of National Defense, Javier Garcíaindicated this Thursday at a press conference that the pertinent authorizations have already been made for the plane to depart on Saturday at 02:00 AM (Uruguayan time) towards Tel Aviv.
“Everything is already on track for Saturday to carry out the operation and for the first group of Uruguayans who are there to be taken to Madrid“said the minister, who added that “we already have a possible second flight of the Hercules of Madrid to Tel Aviv”.
Asked about how many Uruguayans will use the services of the FAU, Garcia He recalled that this first transfer is “close” to 90 people, but that “he knows” that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRREE) is “handling a larger number.”
“Let’s not rule out that there is a second trip of Hercules,” the head of the Ministry of National Defense insisted again.
Regarding the Uruguayans who reside in the area, the minister assured that “the Foreign Ministry is handling all of this because they are very particular circumstances.”
“What we do is operate the air bridge between Madrid and Tel Aviv,” he pointed out. “We have also received requests from countries on the continent that ask for help, whatever can be done and is within our reach, we are going to do it in coordination with the Foreign Ministry,” he said.
Finally, the minister Garcia announced that the government does not have a specific date for the return of the Hercules to Uruguay, since the context of the conflict is changing. “We are going to finish first with the transfer of the Uruguayans who have requested it and we will see later if there are any type of modifications,” he concluded.
