Prosecutors stop again against article in the Accountability

The Association of Fiscal Magistrates of Uruguay announced the tightening of the force measures carried out in rejection of the voted article within the bill of Accountability which inhibits prosecutors from practicing law in the private sphere for one year after their dismissal. Today they stop from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The conflict with the prosecutors continues to grow as they do not receive answers from the Executive power regarding the claims pursued by the magistrates. In that sense, the Association issued a statement in which it confirmed the decision of maintain and intensify union measures.

“Tasks will be strictly limited to the flagrancy and urgency”, said the prosecutors, who announced that “extendable hearings will not be attended, upon presentation of a document explaining the adherence to union measures,” and “the same will be done with hearings of misdemeanors and customs.”

Also “communications and meetings with the Police will be limited to urgent matters only.”

Two new strikes in the Prosecutor’s Offices

Likewise, along with the other measures announced, the Prosecutors set a date and time for the next two partial strikes that they will carry out: today will be the first, while on Tuesday they will carry out the second. Both will take place between 1 and 3 p.m.time in which “they will leave their offices.”

Next Tuesday, in addition to the strike, they called for a mobilization with concentration in the Legislative Palace at 3:00 p.m., when the Chamber of Deputies will be voting on the Accountability bill with the modifications and additives approved in the Senate.

According to the Association of Prosecutors, the measures are because “the platform of demands has not been contemplatedhaving approved the Accountability in the Senate of the Republic and since the project is being studied by the Chamber of Deputies due to the modifications, without any scope having been generated by the responsible authorities to unblock the situation.”

The prosecutors focus their claims on axes such as the article added to the Accountability that prevents them from practicing law for one year after ceasing their functions in the Prosecutor’s Office. They also request that the salary equalization between deputy and assigned prosecutors.
