In a statement released on Saturday, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs “rejects, and has always rejected, the death of civilians and innocent people from all parties involved in this conflict, without differentiating ethnicity, nationality or religious faith and condemning the the murders of civilians in stronger terms.
The conflict has reached a point of high tension after Hamas carried out its deadliest attack in Israel’s history on Saturday, killing more than 1,300 people and taking dozens of hostages.
Israel has responded with the most intense airstrikes in its 75-year conflict with Palestine. According to Gaza authorities, 1,900 people have died.
Since then, Israel has put the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians, under a complete siege and bombarded it with unprecedented airstrikes.
The Foreign Ministry made “an urgent call for a ceasefire” and urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its mandate by ending “Israel’s impunity.”
The text also criticized the United States, which “has historically been complicit (with Israel), by repeatedly obstructing and vetoing the body’s action, which undermines peace, security and regional stability.”
