Hezbollah and Israel exchange new artillery fire on the border with Lebanon

The Israeli Armed Forces and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah today carried out a new exchange of fire across the border between Lebanon and Israel, which fuels tension in the Middle East after the Hamas attack last week and amid the bombings in the Gaza Strip.

The “exchange of fire and attacks” in the eastern part of the border, near the town of Kfar Shuba, was confirmed by the spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Finul), local newspaper L’Orient le reported. Jour.

According to Lebanese Al Manar television, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, shots were fired by “Resistance artillery” against territory controlled by Israel and the attackers “were exposed to the replica of Israeli projectiles.”

“Any Israeli aggression against Lebanon will have a tough and swift response, without hesitation,” warned Sheikh Nabil Kauk, a member of the Central Committee of Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, in statements to the official NNA news agency.

Kauk recalled the recent dispatch of a US aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean and declared that “Hezbollah does not fear fleets and is not threatened by aircraft carriers.”

“He will be where he needs to be and do what he has to do,” he said.

“The West has taken off its mask and shown its hypocrisy, at the height of political and media imposture. This does not surprise us,” he noted.

Later, the top leader of the Lebanese village of Shebaa, Mohammad Harb, confirmed that two civilians were killed by an Israeli bombing.

For its part, the Israeli Armed Forces announced that they were attacking “the origin of the shots in response to several launches from Lebanese territory towards the Mount Dov area,” in a statement replicated by the Europa Press news agency.

“About 30 mortar shells were fired, some of which hit Israeli territory,” the Army said, adding that it had launched an airstrike against a group of armed men who were planning to launch anti-tank missiles.

The new escalation began last Saturday after a surprise attack by Hamas by sea, land and air, which killed around 1,300 people in Israel, 258 of them soldiers, according to the Army, while another 2,215 died on the Israeli side due to the Israeli response. Gaza, including 724 children, according to Palestinian authorities.

These clashes triggered tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, whose disputes increased in recent months, after the Lebanese Shiite militia set up a camp in the demilitarized zone on the border last April.

Hezbollah, which has already fought several armed conflicts with Israel and has claimed responsibility for several attacks on Israeli positions since the start of the war, exchanged fire last Sunday with the Israeli Army in support of the Hamas attack, and reported that three of its fighters had been killed. in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon.

Last Wednesday, Israeli forces reported the launch of an anti-tank projectile from Lebanon towards a military post adjacent to the northern Israeli town of Arab al Aramshe and advised those living near the border to leave the area due to the danger of escalation.

On the same day, in response, Israel Defense Forces aircraft attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.

The NNA news agency said on Thursday that Israel had shelled the area around the southern border town of Dhayra with artillery.
