He Ministry of National Defense is finalizing the details of the second humanitarian flight to Israel for the repatriation of Uruguayan citizens.
The minister, Javier Garciahighlighted today at a press conference the “perfection” with which the first humanitarian mission to that country was carried out by the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU).
On the (Uruguayan) night of Saturday he reached Spain the plane Hercules that transported 80 Uruguayans who asked to be repatriated from the city of Tel Aviv within the framework of the war that crosses that country with Hamas, which has been going on for a week now and threatens to extend over time.
The head of the Ministry of Defense recalled that it is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRREE) the one who prepared the list with all the Uruguayans who requested humanitarian repatriation, a number that would be around 250 people, as reported underlined.
“The situation is extremely complex”
“On Monday a second airlift would be made between Madrid and Tel Aviv,” he said. Garciaalthough he acknowledged that the ministry must be “very cautious”, since the situation in the region is “extremely complex.”
“Within that complexity, having had this mission with this degree of perfection that the FAU carried out, the truth is, it gives us enormous national pride,” he said.
For his part, the chancellor Francisco Bustillo explained that the 80 Uruguayans who were repatriated in the first 12-hour mission were as tourists in Israel.
Due to the number of requests, the possibility of a third flight is open. It is expected that after the current missions are concluded, the MRREE will open the possibility of preparing a new list to evacuate resident Uruguayans.
“The route without 7,500 kilometers from Madrid to Tel Aviv, quite cumbersome, passing through almost 9 different countries,” said the aviator colonel, Shandeliao Gonzalezwho celebrated the fact that “today we have the mission and the people are safe.”
