The rental of land for agricultural use increased by 15% in 2022

The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics reported that total operations exceeded $146 million last year.

The Agricultural Statistics Office (DIEA) presented the results of the tenant operations last year, which were greater than 146 million dollars compared to 2021, representing an increase of 15%.

The dependence of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) published the “Lease Year 2022” report where it determined an average price of 154 dollars per hectare per year in the registered contracts in 2022. This meant an increase of 15% compared to 2021 in relation to the total amount of operations which meant 146 million dollars last year.

Meanwhile, during 2022, 2,739 lease contracts were made, which implied an increase of 8% compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the leased area exceeded 948 thousand hectares, almost 40,000 hectares more than what was agreed in 2021. Livestock, the main destination for leases

Regarding the uses of the leased lands, livestock farming was the main one with a total of 1,159 contracts out of a total of 2,739. In second place was the Agricultural/Livestock with 671, and in third place rainfed agriculture with 536 contracts. The least used were the sector Livestock/Rice farmer and the Dairy/Livestock Farmer with 16 and 36 contracts, respectively.

On the other hand, the fields for Cattle raising They involved 52% of the surface for the year – remaining around half a million hectares if we consider the last two years – with an average value of 86 dollars per hectare, appreciating 20% ​​to the average price reached in 2021.

While the leased area increased for the multipurpose Agricultural-Dairy, Dairy-Livestock and Agricultural-Livestock destinations; At the same time, the dairy was the only specific destination that increased the leased area.

Paysandú, Soriano and Artigas, the most rented

Regarding the differentiations by department, those that obtained the most leased area were Paysandú, Soriano and Artigasrepresenting a total area of ​​282,000 hectares (30% of the total leased) and 38% of the total operations.

On the other hand, Soriano, Colonia and San José They were the departments with the records of the highest average rental price with 344, 314 and 211 dollars per hectare respectively. While the contracts at lower values ​​corresponded to the department of Artigas with an average price per hectare of 80 dollars per year.
