A wolf was killed in a traffic accident in Villach on Monday night. Magistrate employees found the animal around 7 a.m. The driver of the car may have committed a hit-and-run. Police say an investigation is still ongoing.
Tissue samples are evaluated
The state’s wolf commissioner, Roman Kirnbauer, examined the animal. X-rays were taken and DNA samples were taken. The young male could have been spotted several times before. “We have a lot of sightings in the city area and have also had a few scares there,” said Kirnbauer. But he couldn’t say whether the animal had already become conspicuous. The evaluation of the tissue samples will take some time. According to the X-rays, it was clear that the animal, which had suffered massive injuries to its head and hind legs, had fallen victim to a traffic accident. Projectiles or splinters were not visible on the X-rays.
