The latest generation of radiation therapy is suitable for destroying a small tumor in the brain, for example. It relies on protons and carbon ions. However, in order to transport the tiny particles to where they can have their beneficial effects, a huge machine is needed, a particle accelerator. One such is in the basement of MedAustron, the cancer treatment and research center in Wiener Neustadt. There are only six such centers worldwide.

MedAustron managing director Ludwig Gold explains how the technology works and how the therapy is carried out on Sunday, October 22nd (4:30 p.m.), in Welios in conversation with OÖN science columnist Leo Ludick.
