Instead of having to laboriously visit several farm shops, the customer can collect the goods once a week. FoodCoops are usually organized as associations run by volunteers. On October 20th and 21st, FoodCoops and Solidarity Farms (SoLAWis) will draw attention to themselves with open days across the country.
Also included is “Tischlein deck dich” from Michaelnbach. The project was launched in December 2021 on the initiative of four Michaelnbach women. “We currently have 52 suppliers and around 700 different products in our range, some of which we also have in stock for spontaneous purchases,” says Magdalena Stockinger, one of the founders. The aim is to show the diversity of local producers. The idea of jointly organized shopping came about during the Ideas Day, a citizen participation process, in the community.
The initiative received a boost in July this year when it received an award at an international competition organized by the Wüstenrot Foundation. The prize money of 10,000 euros will be invested in a kitchen so that people can come together more often for “Tischlein deck dich”. On Friday there will be product tastings with regional producers, coffee & cake, fresh storms and a snack in the “Alte Tischlerei” on the sunny slope from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Well-stocked pantry
Sebastian Wachter took over the “pantry” on Schubertstrasse in Wels from founder Magdalena Glasner in March. He focuses on organic food from around 20 suppliers; pick-up dates are always Fridays. “I offer a full range, you can also buy hygiene products from me, and I also have my own filling station for cleaning products,” says Wachter. The customer base is diverse and ranges from young families to retirees who value regional products and healthy food. At the open day on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be tastings of “Kochmarie” from the Schwarzbergerhof in Schönau im Mühlkreis.
