Because many parents bring their children to school in the car, there is often traffic chaos there early in the morning. “A safe place should look different,” says local councilor Peter Grmundnig (Greens).
Traffic committee chairman Reinhold Kassmannhuber (ÖVP parliamentary group) and Grundnig therefore launched the “Safe School Routes in Gmunden” campaign. To this end, children were asked about danger spots on their way to school. Experts took a close look at these spots and gave the municipality recommendations to improve the situation. In addition, a school route plan was developed for children and their parents. It not only helps children find the safest route to school and behave correctly, but also gives parents tips on where it is best to let their little ones off. Kassmannhuber and Grundnig from the schools, parents’ associations, the city police and the municipality’s building department.
The pilot project at the Nikolaus Lenau School has largely been completed. Recommended measures to improve the road situation will be submitted to the mobility committee. In the coming months, the Stadt, Brahmsschule and Traundorf elementary schools will also be included in the initiative.
