The police announced this on Wednesday. The 20-year-old was temporarily arrested the day before when she and other climate activists refused to follow police orders during a protest.

In the UK, the police usually issue a preliminary charge before a further one is made by the public prosecutor. For lesser offenses, the police will continue to charge you.

A total of 26 people were charged over the protest in front of a hotel in central London against a meeting of energy managers. According to the police statement, Thunberg is scheduled to appear in court on November 15th. She remains at large until then.

The regulations that Thunberg is said to have violated are part of a controversial judicial reform by the conservative government, which gives the police extensive powers to regulate protests. They only came into force last year.
