The 33-year-old Pakistani drove off the road in the Unterweißenbach municipality (Freistadt district) at the end of September. The accident caused property damage, but fortunately no one was injured. Instead of reporting the damage, the driver simply drove on.
Initial police investigations revealed that it could be a delivery driver. An assumption that should come true on Wednesday. The police became aware of a delivery truck in Pierbach (Freistadt district) in the early hours of the morning and checked it – the hit-and-run Pakistani was behind the wheel. The accident vehicle registered to him had already been assigned to the 33-year-old.
He confessed to the allegations and admitted that he had left the road because he was microsleeping. Why didn’t he call the police? That wasn’t common in his homeland, at least no one was hurt, the man justified himself. The Pakistani was also apparently surprised that he had to carry a valid driving license with him: When his driving license turned out to be a total fake, he told the officials that in Pakistan it was completely normal to have a “copy” with him instead of a driving license.
