A duck in distress may have owed its life to an attentive passer-by: The water bird got tangled in a fishing line at a pond in the municipality of Ried im Innkreis and was no longer able to free itself from its predicament. The witness raised the alarm and the Ried volunteer fire department responded to rescue the exhausted wild animal. The duck was quickly released back into the wild.
The police then checked the bank area. The officers found several hooks and fishing lines equipped with artificial bait. According to the pond manager, damage to the fish population had already occurred, the police said on Wednesday evening.
