Amstetten is hoping for initial success with its favorite opponent

It is an unusual situation for the Mostviertel team, who have been spoiled for success in recent years: After the first third of the season in the second league, SKU Ertl Glas Amstetten is at the bottom of the table. In ten games there were nine defeats and one draw with a goal difference of 8:20. The gap to the second-to-last, Liefering, is eight points, and nine points to the saving 13th place, which Sturm Graz II currently occupies.

The hope of staying in the league in Amstetten has not yet been given up before today’s away game at FAC Vienna. Although this would finally require the first full success and, if possible, a winning streak, as team manager Matthias Götz explains: “The FAC suits us. We won against the Viennese three weeks ago in the second round of the cup and also won both duels last season decided for us.” In addition, FAC, which is fifth in the table, has now been without a win in four competition games.

And Götz sees another reason for the current negative run: “In recent years, luck has often been on our side. And this year we suffered eight of the nine defeats with a difference of just one goal. The dog is in it.” This series nibbles at the self-confidence of the young team of neo-coach Patrick Enengl, who has changed significantly compared to the previous season and who replaced Jochen Fallmann after three and a half successful years on the Mostviertler sidelines.

However, Enengl is still waiting for its first league win. Two veterans should help on the way there: Amstetten brought forward the squad changes planned for the winter break and signed the players without a club, Nicolas Andermatt and Fabian Miesenböck. The 27-year-old Swiss Andermatt was most recently active in the 3rd German league in Bayreuth and should take on a central role in midfield. Miesenböck was most recently under contract with Austria Klagenfurt and has 31 Bundesliga and 84 second division games to his name. “This means that two experienced players with leadership qualities are joining us,” says Enengl.
