The fatal accident occurred shortly before the summit cross of the 945 meter high Maisenkögerl. The hiker led the way on the exposed path while her 36-year-old husband and their dog waited below.
For reasons that are still unclear, the 34-year-old slipped on the way up and free-fell over the rock face for around 50 meters, where she came to rest in the forest. The husband could only hear his wife’s scream.
He immediately began resuscitation with a hiker who happened to be passing by and made the emergency call. Emergency medical helicopters, mountain rescue and Alpine police were alerted, but their help came too late. Because of the serious injuries, the doctors could only declare death. The husband and the witness were cared for by the crisis intervention team.
